Hard Work Pays Off Scholarship Recipients

Mutrux Firm Injury Lawyers is proud to support students who are determined to make themselves and the world a better place. Our commitment to this cause led us to create the Mutrux Firm Injury Lawyers Hard Work Pays Off Scholarship which awards one devoted student with $1,000 towards their education.

After reviewing the applications, we are proud to announce that Shayna A. won our 2021 scholarship award! Below is a short profile of our winner.

About Shayna:

Shayna is a native Texan and a graduate of Texas A&M University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English with minors in Psychology and Performance Studies. Shayna is now an incoming graduate student at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she will study the impacts of trauma on performance, both on stage and in everyday life.

Shayna aspires to become an educator and mentor for young scholars and artists, and is an active advocate for mental health, especially in the dance community. She is proud to create art and choreography that not only empowers women of all ages, but challenges societal perceptions and expectations of women and their bodies. As someone who has recovered from a severe eating disorder, she is passionate about teaching women, especially young dancers, that their bodies are not something to be ashamed of.

Shayna’s essay discussed the unique obstacles posed by her eating disorder and how she used dance as a form of expression. Through her determination and genuine desire to help others, she overcame her the obstacles and acts in the service of others who are encountering similar issues.

Her Reaction:

I found out that I won this scholarship while I was at work, and while I wish I could say I had an extremely “phone-professional” reaction, I honestly did not know what to say and it all came out gibberish. I’d been applying to scholarships for months with no luck, and I almost gave up. I found this scholarship and realized that it was perfect for the experiences I’d had in my life and decided to give the application process one last go. I was so thrilled to get the “congratulations” call, and I cannot thank Mutrux Firm Injury Lawyers enough for not only reading my essay, but for awarding me this scholarship based on how far I have come through my recovery. I am humbled to receive this award, and forever thankful that this firm saw the person beyond the eating disorder and the potential for continued growth in me despite my past adversities.

As always, we thank Shayna and the countless other applicants who were kind enough to share their amazing stories. If this opportunity sounds relevant to you or a student you know, please check out our scholarship page for more details.
