How Long it Takes to Get the Money for Your Property Damage Claim

Attorney Tyson Mutrux describes in this video how long it takes to get paid on your property damage claim after an auto accident.

Hi, Tyson Mutrux here again with The Mutrux Law Firm and today were talking about property damage claims, and in particular, how long it’s going to take for you to actually get paid on your vehicle. Now it’s really going to be dependant upon whether the vehicle is a total loss, or if it can be repaired.

If it can be repaired, you’re going to have a couple options. Number 1, they can write you the check directly, or they can pay the body shop directly. Now, if you have the body shop directly, you’re not going to receive any money. So, once the vehicle is actually repaired, the body shop’s going to submit the invoice to the insurance company and they’re going to pay them directly.

Now, if you want to get it repaired yourself, typically what will happen is, either the insurance company will send an adjustor out, or they’ll have the body shop give them an estimate and they’ll write you a check on the spot, or it will take them a couple weeks to get the check to you.

So, it really depends on what option you choose. To do the first option, where the body shop does it and they get paid, they usually use a preferred service provider. That is what they’re called. That’s what body shops are. There are actually body shops that the insurance company has selected to work with on a regular basis. If the vehicle is a total loss, it’s going to be a little different. It can depend on how long it takes the insurance company to send out an adjustor, do an estimate, and then total it up and send you a check. Some insurance companies like Geico, State Farm, the bigger ones, they give the adjustor the authority to write a check, right there on the spot if they have their software there or their laptop, so they can run the numbers. So, it’s going to be dependant upon the insurance company.

For smaller insurance companies, they’ll send you to a body shop that they work with or they’ll send out an adjustor and it will depend upon how long it takes for that adjustor to come out, then they’ll report back to the insurance company/the in-house adjustor, and they will write a check. It can take usually 2-4 weeks for you to get that check.
So hopefully that answers your questions on how long it’s going to take you to get paid on your insurance property claim. For other information visit us at www.mutruxlaw.com, or give us a call at 8988-550-4026. Thanks a lot and have a great day.
