What is Jury Selection

Attorney Tyson Mutrux describes in this video what is Jury Selection

Hi! Tyson Mutrux here with the Mutrux Law Firm. Today I’m answering the question of, “What is jury selection?” Now sometimes you may hear it as referred to as voir dire. I don’t call it that. It’s a jury selection. I think people that want to use the fancy term voir dire, let them. But it just overcomplicates it. It’s jury selection. That’s all it is.

So, what is jury selection? It’s actually the process of eliminating bad jurors, and what do I mean by that? Those are people that may bring bias into the courtroom, which may hurt one party or the other. For example, let’s say you’ve got a family member that’s been murdered. You don’t want them on a murder trial usually because they may bring some sort of strong feelings into the trial. Another example may be a serious car accident. If you’ve been injured in a car accident, you may not be the best person to be a juror on an auto accident case because you may have some strong feelings against one side or the other which may affect their chances of winning, so you want to remove those jurors that may have some sort of bias. So that’s jury selection.
